The Virtue of Bewilderment

The improvement of life depends on keeping full its supply of surprises. Half the fun of waking up in the morning is the feeling that you have come upon a day that is brand new, a day that the world has never seen before; a day that is certain to do things that no other day has ever done. Half the pleasure of welcoming a newborn baby is the absolute certainty that here you have a packet of amazing surprises It will be a sad day for us all when the world has run out of fireworks to shoot into the sky: no more shocks to be sustained, no more sensations to be experienced, and no more thrills to be enjoyed. Fancy being condemned to live in a world that has nothing up its sleeve to surprise you. It would be a numbing state of existence, void of variety, void of individuality, and void of astonishments. The Land of Religious Identity

It was late at night when I sat down next to my grandfather and asked him to tell me a story. Grandfather had traveled all over the world in his day and as a result, had an endless supply of stories about far off lands. This time, he told me about a country called, Religious-Identity. What he described was more of a city-state sort of government. The only requirement for entrance was to be on a personal quest to find meaning and truth. Each of the three individual cities had their own set of regulations for what this quest would entail. I wanted to see for myself, so I packed my bags and set off on my journey. Continue reading

The Essential Essence of a Thing

I once saw a beautiful apple in the grocery store. It was so beautiful that I just had to take a closer look. Soon, I had it in my hand and proceeded to examine its perfection. I had never seen an apple quite like this before. You know how most apples have an oblong shape with rippled bumps on one end where the flower used to be and a noticeable dip in the middle of the top where the stem is? Not this one. No, this apple was perfectly round. It was not the color of other apples either. It had a pale yellow color that was so soft it was almost white. The skin felt flaky and some even crumbled in my hand as I held it. The apple must have been a newly cultivated species, perhaps the first one to be sold.  I knew immediately that I had to buy it. There was no way I was going to pass up such a perfect apple. So I proudly marched that thing to the counter and made it my own.

Prestige and Fame

Number eight is such a beautiful vibrant green color. I like it because it is interesting to look at and is an eye popping addition to anything imaginable. The green is bright and deep but I would not describe it as neon or dark green. It is also extremely attractive due to the fact that it has a serious, down-to-earth attitude weaved into the greenish tones. This is the kind of green that has a job to do and will get it done against all odds. I much prefer such a shade of green than the wobbly kinds that lack any substance or solidity. Green of this sort is highly intellectual and prestigious. If I were to compare the green itself to a commonly seen green, I might liken it to the shade of green on the John Deere logo or of a luscious, well-cared for front lawn. From now on, when I say “green” I am referring specifically to this particular shade and tone of green. Continue reading

To Be An Encourager

To be an encourager is the highest level of virtuous influence attainable by mankind.

Several months ago, I nervously approached one of my thinking coaches feeling hopelessly defeated. Things weren’t going too well and I was convinced it was time to give up. I had massive doubts about myself as I did not see the progress in life that I had expected. There was nothing positive in the foreseeable future. Surely, I was a failure and I needed one of my thinking coaches to beat some cold hard truth into my brain about my lack of improvement in order for me to except that I simply don’t measure up. If that was what I was looking for, I went to the wrong person. Continue reading

Arbitrary IPA Numbering

Arbitrary IPA Numbering (A.IPA.N.)

Arbitrary IPA Numbering is the second level of IPA Notation. This is based off of the same arrangement of phonemes on the QWERTY keyboard. However, instead of using the special characters, we use numbers to represent each phoneme. The intent is to enable the user to apply IPA notation in electronic form without the need for any special programs or software. A.IPA.N. is designed so that no keys will be needed except for the keys on the number pad. Continue reading

Authenic Community

There are certain people I know who are what I call “Thinking Coaches”. Thinking Coaches are those people I go to for advice or when I need to discuss life matters and get the perspective of someone who has been there, done that.  It is a little complicated because there are so many different areas of life that I must categorize each coach by what type of questions I will ask each individual. For example, I may have a category of people that I go to for work related issues, another group of people that I go to for finances, and another for relational, and so on and so forth for however many aspects of living you could think of. It is a complex systematic web of coaches. I have probably learned a lot more from these people simply by trying to manage the web than I have from asking pointed questions. Continue reading
